Neurotoxins

What are neurotoxins?
Neurotoxins are a compound made of botulism toxin (a toxin made from a certain bacteria) that was found through investigation to decrease muscle activity. Some common brands are Botox, Xeomin, Dysport, and Jeuveau.

What do they do?
Because they decrease muscle activity, they work great for common wrinkles that develop as we age. Throughout our life, our facial muscles are constantly moving and contracting to form our different facial expressions and show our mood. When they contract, they form wrinkles and as we age these wrinkles become more prominent. These can include forehead lines, frown lines between our eyes, crow’s feet on the outer part of our eyes, dimpling skin on the chin, and even neck bands. So, at the appropriate dose, neurotoxins can be injected to decrease the muscle activity and thus decrease the wrinkles.

Do they work on all wrinkles?
No. They work best on “wrinkles in motion” or wrinkles that form when we contract the muscle. For those who have “wrinkles at rest” or wrinkles that are present when the face is resting, neurotoxin may ease their appearance but not get rid of them. Fillers are needed for those.

How long is the treatment?
After agreement on a plan, neurotoxins can be injected in the office within 30 minutes or so.

Any restrictions after treatment?
You want to get the best results you can. So, no physical activity for 24 hours, no lying down for 4-6 hours, no massaging the face for 24 hours, and avoid painkillers and alcohol for a few days - as all these things can move the neurotoxin to act on other undesired muscles

How long do the effects last?
Usually, you will notice the effects in about 1-2 weeks and the total effect will last up till 3-4 months. Thus, to maintain consistent results, around 3-4 treatments are needed per year.

Are there any side effects?
Yes, as we all know, there are always risks. There can be a small chance of infection or mild bleeding at the injection site. Also, we want a certain amount of neurotoxin to act on a specific muscle but sometimes it can spread to surrounding muscles and weaken them. Dr. Kuriachan will discuss all the risks before proceeding and precautions afterwards.

Which Neurotoxin brand is better?
There is not much of a difference amongst brands. They all work the same way and last the same time.

What do you charge for Neurotoxin?
Most practices typically charge the patient per unit of neurotoxin. I don’t like this approach because it is hard to know beforehand how many units are needed. For example, if a patient agrees to only pay for 10 units, but you actually need 15 units to get the desired result, then that patient is under corrected and no one is happy with the result. Thus, we charge a fixed price depending on the area of treatment because we want the patient to have a good result. PRICE LIST TO FOLLOW. Injectable Fillers

What are Injectable fillers?
They are made from hyaluronic acid that can be injected to replace lost volume due to aging.

What do fillers do?
As you get older, you can lose bone mass and fat under the skin. This lost volume contributes to “looking older” so areas can look hollow, droopy, and have large fixed wrinkles. Fillers can help replace that lost volume to restore a more youthful appearance.

What can fillers be used for?

  • Fixed wrinkles (wrinkles at rest) of the forehead
  • Volume loss around eyebrows
  • Under eye bags and lines
  • Volume loss around cheeks
  • Naso-labial folds (line that goes from corner of nose to mouth)
  • Volume loss around lips
  • Marionette Lines (line that goes from corner of mouth to chin)
  • Reshaping of the jaw/ Fixing Jowls

What are the different types of fillers?
There are several different fillers. More common ones are Juvederm, Restylane, and Revanesse Versa. They are all composed of hyaluronic acid and work the same way to provide volume to areas that have lost volume. Dr. Kuriachan mainly uses Revanesse Versa as it has the highest purity content of all the fillers and thus causes the least inflammation. Overall, however, the type of filler used is not important in determining the results. It is the injection technique and level of tissue where the filler is injected that best determines the final result.

How long is the treatment?
After agreeing on a treatment plan, fillers can be injected in the office within an hour. Fillers can be more painful so depending on the area, we may use different forms of light anesthesia.

How long do the effects last?
Depending on the area, your specific face characteristics, and how fast you resorb the filler, the effect can last 6 months to 2 years

What are the side effects of using fillers?
There is always a risk of bruising, allergic reactions, inflammatory reactions, infections, and uneven bumps from the filler. Some very rare complications can include accidental injection of the filler into major blood vessels that can cause tissue breakdown and damage the facial areas the blood vessel supplies.

What do you charge for fillers?
Currently, we charge $600 per syringe. Your age, area of treatment, and desired results will determine how many syringes are needed. However, Dr. Kuriachan’s main goal is to create the desired effect that you and he agree to during consultation. Usually, to get the desired effect with fillers, “less is more.” So, please come in for a free consultation to see approximately how much it would be for you. Treatment price will be lower if combined with other treatments. We offer payment plans through CareCredit.

Accutite

What is Accutite?
It is classified as a Radiofrequency Assisted Liposuction (RFAL) machine. Using heat energy, it helps contract the skin and underlying tissues/ fat, all through an incision the size of a pen tip done in the office. Thus, it can remove fat and tighten skin with precision. That heat energy will stimulate new collagen and blood vessels.

What will it Treat?
The most common areas include:

  • The eyebrow line (skin above and below the eyebrow)
  • The eyelid skin (skin above and below the eye)
  • Nasolabial folds (fold lines that occur around the nose and mouth)
  • Droopy Jaw Line (jowls)
  • Double chins
  • Saggy neck areas

Who is a candidate for this treatment?
Anyone who is relatively healthy, not recently tanned, and without any recent skin infections.

What can I expect when getting the treatment?
Dr. Kuriachan will mark the areas to be treated. Depending on the area of treatment, you will get adequate anesthesia to ensure a comfortable experience. Then, while listening to music, Dr. Kuriachan will perform the procedure to your areas of concern. Typically, this can take 30 minutes to an hour.

What is the aftercare?
Dr. Kuriachan and his staff will provide a skin care regimen to use. You will have swelling that can take a few days to resolve. You may be required to wear a pressure garment to help with swelling/bruising. You will need to limit physical activity for 2 weeks. Dr. Kuriachan will provide further instructions for your aftercare.

When will I see results?
Accutite is a long term solution as it stimulates new growth of collagen and blood vessels. Thus, results should be noticeable in 1-3 months and can continue to improve for 12 months.

Any side effects or risks?
Some risks include excessive skin redness and/or swelling, burning of the skin, temporary numbness/tingling, scarring, infection, and damage to nerves causing weakness of affected areas - but although all these are possible, they are very rare.

  • Eyelids $3500
  • Midface - fold around mouth and nose $3500
